An update from our investment manager, Bruce Stout- 8 December 2021

Many distorting political and monetary conditions have impacted the economic landscape in the interim period, not least unrecognisably high debt levels, trillions of new money printed in the guise of quantitative easing, and an almost universal acceptance that savings in a bank account attract no interest. But the re-emergence of inflation should have a sobering effect on those disciples of this so called 'new normal'. Against any barometer of economic sense, interest rates and bond yields in the so called Developed world are simply far too low for the inflation threat currently percolating in higher prices and wages worldwide. Throughout Asia and the Emerging world monetary authorities have already acted to implement inflation containing interest-rate policies, therefore the flexibility to restore credibility has arguably be re-established in advance. It is towards such markets, where businesses currently enjoy greater growth prospects and transparency, that the diversified portfolio remains positioned.
